Brazil Imperial

Take on the role of one of the great monarchs of the past, and show your valor! You will arrive in a vast and rich territory, but the road to prosperity is filled with challenges.

The game is really straightforward, and the rules are well done.

I think it's a great design.

It does remind me a bit of Scythe, but it also stands on its own.

Brazil: Imperial is a midweight strategic board game for 1-4 players introducing a new concept of the euro x game — combining a euro game, in which players collect and manage resources, with a 4X game, where players explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate. The gameplay takes place in Brazil between the 16th and 19th centuries and is strongly tied to rich Brazilian history by bringing historical figures to the game. Each player takes on the role of a monarch working to build a prosperous nation and advance it throughout 3 eras. Players send military units to explore and defend their territory, construct and renovate cities, farms, and mines, produce and trade resources—wood, sugar cane, cotton, and coffee, and acquire the support of historical figures from Brazil’s past to receive special powers. The game is played on a modular map and offers 8 different scenarios with various map setups recreating regions of Brazil, which are each well-tailored to different player counts.
